Painting is a form of expression. Usually splashed with beautiful colors, these paintings are eye pleasing to every individual. Painting is all about being creative and inventing new styles and techniques by oneself. In art, the term painting describes both the act and the result of the action. There are various forms of painting : watercolor, oil painting, ink, spray painting, pastel etc.
The oldest known paintings are at the Grotte Chauvet in France, claimed by some historians to be about 32,000 years old. They are engraved and painted using red ochre and black pigment and show horses, rhinoceros, lions, buffalo, mammoth or humans often hunting. The invention of photography had a major impact on painting. During mid 19th century when photography became popular then painting began to be less appreciated. Julian Bell, in his book “What is Painting?” discusses the development, through history, of the notion that paintings can express feelings and ideas.
Art museums are present in various parts of the world that exhibits arts, and among them the most exhibited is the paintings. Some of the famous art galleries and museums are Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, British Museum in London, The Vatican Museums in Rome, The Louvre in Paris etc. No doubt that everyone of us are very familiar with the very famous painting by the legend Leonard Da Vinci, the Mona Lisa.
