Fashion design is generally considered to have started in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth who was the first designer to have his label sewn into the garments that he created. The garments so produced, fall into the three categories:
Ready-to-wear: These outfits are not made for an individual alone. Careful choice and cutting of fabric is done as such they are produced in small quantity in order to ensure its uniqueness thereby making it rather expensive.
Haute couture:This is a French word meaning high-fashion and each outfit is made for a particular client. Since it is made for an individual, it is done with extreme concentration with the size, use of expensive fabric, carefully sewn and high quality materials. Thus it is expensive as well as time consuming.
