The art of carving, shaping, cutting, arranging wood, plastic or mud into different shapes and figures is called as sculpture. Sculptures can be made up of wood, clay, mud, plastic, marble, sand, metal or stone. Sculptures have been an important part of culture since ancient times. There are lots of wonderful examples of sculptures all over the world. For example : Ceaser Augustus, The Venus Di Milo, The Lady Justice Statue etc are some world famous sculptures.
THE MOST FAMOUS SCULPTURE |
The beauty of sculptures are added further by painting but due to the continuous exposure to the extremes of weather they tend to corrode. The making of sculptures depends entirely upon one’s creativity and idea. Compared to other forms of art, sculpture has been universal. It has been used through the east to west…to north and south. One using his\her hands to finally give something beautiful is what sculpture deals with. In today’s scenario especially when the world has become such advanced and mechanized sculptures play a great role in conveying us that our ancestors were hardworking , strong and creative.
Sculptures are sensitive to environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and exposure to light and ultraviolet light. Acid rain can also cause damage to certain building materials and historical monuments. This results when the sulfuric acid in the rain chemically reacts with the calcium compounds in the stones (limestone, sandstone, marble and granite) to create gypsum, which then flakes off. Thus it is our duty to preserve them through mantainence and renovation.
Sculpture as an art form goes back to Prehistoric times. Sculptures were created those days using stones and slowly it transformed with new ideas and varieties. Up till date there has been lots of wonderful works done, which are very pleasing to the eyes.
